Everyone has an Accent

We don't want to change that.

Accents are part of who we are. They add to our diversity, reveal our history, and connect us to our roots. Your accent makes you special. Many people take pride in the uniqueness of their accent. We're not here to take away your accent. We want to give you control of it.

Sometimes an accent can get in the way. Do others have trouble understanding you? Do people seem to have an unfair bias against you because of the way you speak? That's not right. Do people just focus too much on your accent? Maybe WHAT you say gets lost in HOW you say it. If misunderstandings are frequent and people ask you to repeat yourself, communication can be frustrating.

Accent modification is structured, multi-sensory instruction. Classes reveal patterns of pronunciation you never noticed and help you sound more like a native speaker of English. Your instructor will give you real-world strategies to help you actually change the way you speak whether work or in your personal life.

Sometimes Americans want to adopt an accent from a different part of the country. Whatever your circumstances, working with an accent modification specialist will help you:

  • Detect hard-to-hear sounds;
  • Accurately pronounce difficult English consonants and vowels;
  • Master the rhythm and flow of English;
  • Say tricky words that are spelled differently than they sound;
  • Speak more naturally and confidently;
  • Stop having to repeat yourself so often.

Options are available that fit your busy life and budget. There's no better time to start. Enroll in a course today.

FAQ

  • Is accent modification right for me?

    If you're tired of questions like, "Could you repeat that?" and "Where are you from?", then accent modification might be the answer. Accent training is recommended for foreign speakers who have good English language skills (e.g., vocabulary, word order, and listening skills), but want to improve their pronunciation. Sometimes Americans want to minimize their regional accent. It is also common for actors who need to adjust their pronunciation for a role.

  • How does accent training work?

    No one can teach you to pronounce every single word in English. But we can teach you *patterns* of pronunciation. We focus on making the trickier parts of English pronunciation easy-to-follow. We make hard-to-hear sounds, concrete and learnable. There's no guesswork. We tell you exactly how to make every sound in English and we'll point out ways to speak you may never have noticed. Research tells us that if you train the ear the mouth will follow. We take that to the next level. We train your ear and give you the tools to speak confidently.

  • How much will I improve?

    Our students see results right away. Research tells us if you train the ear, the mouth follows. But this next part is important – Change comes from within. These classes will pinpoint exactly those sounds you struggle with and will teach you precisely how to make them. Your instructor will prioritize lessons so you get the most benefit in the shortest time. There is no doubt that working 1:1 with a master instructor or completing our structured online courses will be much more effective than working alone with random YouTube videos. You will improve. How much you improve will depend on several factors: (1) your motivation to improve your pronunciation, (2) your willingness to make attempts and accept feedback, (3) and your commitment to ongoing practice and incorporating lessons into your daily speech. Your instructor will craft activities to target sounds in a clear way. We use a multi-sensory approach to help you see/hear/feel how sounds should be made. We’ll also take samples of your accent before and after you complete your program. You’ll hear for yourself how much better you sound.

  • How do Video Lessons work?

    Recorded video lessons have been designed and curated to target common obstacles in English pronunciation. You'll set your own pace and work whenever you want.

  • What are live classes like?

    You have the option to work live, 1:1 with an expert instructor. Each lesson is customized to fit you and your goals so you get the most from your learning. Just the right speed and with direct feedback. Sessions are 50-minutes and target specific skills with guided practice. You'll meet with your instructor online. That means you can connect from anywhere. Meeting times are flexible. Practice materials continue your learning between classes. And you always have the option to record your sessions.

  • How do I choose the right option?

    We've worked hard to make a variety of option available to our learners. Our goal is to increase access to this training at a price that fits your budget.
